THE MAGAZINE STAFF
G. STEPHEN CONNATSER
Editor-in-Chief, Publisher
Prior to co-founding <to:> Traveler Overseas magazine, Steve Connatser was the editor and publisher of Polo Magazine. H.R.H. Prince Charles, a fan of the magazine, sent him a note commending him for a job "very well done indeed". William F. Buckley has written that he considers Connatser "the best designer in the world."
In his 17 years in the magazine business, Connatser was Design Director for Private Clubs Magazine, D Magazine, and American Way magazine. He has won the coveted national award for Best Magazine Design from the Magazine Publishers Association and has twice been awarded the William Allen White Award for Best Magazine Design. Connatser has won over 375 awards from various sources such as The New York Art Directors' Club, The Magazine Publishers' Association, Communication Arts Magazine, Print Magazine, and The Society of Publication Design.
Connatser, who resides in Dallas with his wife Judy and daughter Angela, has lived the life about which <to:> exists. He has smoked cigars with Fidel Castro in Havana, sailed the Scottish Hebrides from distillery to distillery, surfed on the back of a giant manta ray in the Fijian Islands, whitewater rafted the Zambizi in Zimbabwe and blackwater rafted the caves of New Zealand, ridden atop a train dubbed the "Flying Rooster" from high in the Andes down through the rain forest amid clouds of butterflies, watched incredulously while a blue-footed booby walked across his hiking boots in the Galapagos, and been charged by a bull elephant in South Africa.
